π Ubuntu VPS RDP Setup Guide
This page will help you convert your Ubuntu 22.04 VPS into a Remote Desktop environment with GUI, Chrome, Firefox, LibreOffice, and user management.
π‘ What this setup does:
- Installs GUI (XFCE)
- Installs RDP server (xRDP)
- Installs Chrome, Firefox, LibreOffice with desktop shortcuts
- Creates a user with the password you choose
- Allows remote login using Windows Remote Desktop
- Installs system monitor (Glances)
π§ Step 1: Access VPS using PuTTY
- Download PuTTY from here: Download PuTTY
- Open PuTTY
- In the βHost Nameβ field, enter your VPS IP address
- Port: 22 (default for SSH)
- Click "Open"
- Login with your VPS credentials (usually username:
root)
π₯ Step 2: Download and Run the RDP Setup Script
Copy and paste the following commands into PuTTY:
wget https://vpscon.ispro.pk/setup_gui_rdp.sh
chmod +x setup_gui_rdp.sh
./setup_gui_rdp.sh
The script will ask you to enter:
- Username to create
- Password for that user
π₯οΈ Step 3: Access Your VPS Desktop from Windows
- Open "Remote Desktop Connection" on your PC (search
mstsc)
- Enter your VPS IP and click "Connect"
- Login with the username and password you created
π How to Change Password Later
After login, open terminal and run:
passwd
π Troubleshooting Chrome Error
If Chrome shows an error like "Profile already in use", run this command:
rm ~/.config/google-chrome/SingletonLock
